BESSIE HOLCOMB’S BUTTERMILK CAKE
1 cup Crisco
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour (plain)
4 eggs
½ tsp. soda
½ tsp. salt
1 scant cup buttermilk
In a mixer, beat sugar , Crisco and ½ the flour for 2 minuets
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition
Add salt, vanilla and ½ the buttermilk
Add soda to last half of the buttermilk, mix well, add to batter and beat 2 minuets.
Pour batter into 3 greased and floured cake pans and bake at 350* for 30 to 40 minuets or until toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean.
